Familymatch

Independent and government schools are continually searching for more effective ways of locating additional students. Whilst it is acknowledged that word of mouth advertising is likely to remain the most powerful force in promoting individual schools, the media and other means will continued to be used.

The challenge is to find a cost effective way of targeting and identifying young families who are likely, by virtue of their socio-economic background, to be interested in what your school can offer their children.

A Solution…

Washington Services has introduced Familymatch in response to this need utilising the power and flexibility of the Australian Consumer Database, (ACD). The ACD contains and regularly updates almost all adult Australians. The ACD has been assembled from several highly reliable public domain sources and of critical interest to the education sector is that it can be targeted geographically by age and socio-economic groupings. Consequently pockets of potential parents for a school can be accessed.

Process and Output…

Familymatch first typecasts the existing current, past and possibly future parents on the school records according to the “MOSAIC” neighbourhood classification coding system. This identifies each household according to its socio-economic type and locates it within a grouping of only 18 to 20 dwellings. This is a far more targeted approach than working with Postcodes which may contain from 2,000 to 20,000 addresses.

Having thereby established the predominant nature of the school’s clientele Familymatch will identify pockets of like families and provide names, addresses and phone numbers. Likewise groupings of other socio-economic types can be identified.

The school will then be provided with listings of the potential clients in order that a personalised direct mail campaign can be conducted in order to engage the targeted families. Alternatively the identification of these pockets of like families can be used to establish or refine school bus routes.

Additionally through Familymatch names, addresses, phone numbers of thousands of parents Australia wide who have indicated that they are considering non-government education for their children can be accessed. The ages, sexes and given names of children can also be appended for a targetted direct mail programme.

All not for profit institutions face the ongoing challenge of maintaining contact with alumni future parents and other supporters. Until now the task of re-discovering lost addressees has been a matter of working the personal networks or, in recent times, laboriously wading through the Australian Electoral Rolls on microfiche.

The challenge has been to find an efficient yet cost effective means of recovering lost addresses, with particular emphasis on bringing computer technology to bear on the problem.

A Solution…

Washington Services has now introduced Addmatch which matches the institution’s lost addressees against the Australian Consumer Database, (ACD), which holds and regularly updates the home addresses of almost all adult Australians. The ACD has been assembled from several highly reliable public domain sources and is used for a variety of direct mail applications.

Output…

The output will be in the form of two files as follows:

  • where there is uncertainty as to the correctness of an address, the address will be confirmed if appropriate and the phone number appended where possible,
  • where no last known address is submitted up to five possible new addresses will be supplied, with phone numbers where possible, ranked by time at the new address.

Institutions typically make phone contact with the candidate prior to reinstatement on the database.
